New Wet N' Wild MegaLast Liquid Catsuit Lipstick + Perfect Pout Gel Lip Liner Reviews | Aka That Lipstick Review I Meant to Publish in January

I'm pretty sure I bought the Wet N' Wild megalast liquid catsuit lipsticks and perfect pout gel lip liners back in December, and I'm pretty sure I've been promising a review on them since January! But alas, it's better late than never right?

When it comes to drugstore brands, I tend to stick to the more affordable brands-- Wet N' Wild, E.L.F., and Jordana are my drugstore holy trinity. I figure if I'm spending $10+ on a drugstore product, I might as well buy it from a mid-range brand. It may not make sense but that's how my brain justifies it. So when one of the three brands come out with a new product, it's usually immediately on my radar.

Wet N' Wild has put out liquid lipsticks before, but I was never compelled to purchase them because they always got mixed reviews. These liquid lipsticks on the other hand, seem to be universally liked! I remember visiting Walgreens literally every other day or two for two weeks trying to find these lipsticks. When I finally found them I also spotted a display with their new gel lip liners which were selling for $3 a pop, I bought two colors for testing purposes. For the blog 😜.

Packaging
These lipsticks come in a cute little plastic tube. They're about the size of the NYX butter glosses. I included a comparison shot of the lipsticks next to one of the NYX glosses, a MAC lipstick, and a beautyblender.

According to other people on the interwebs, the packaging is very similar to the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks. If you read my last anti-haul post, you'll know that I can't confirm nor deny this comparison as I've never bought or tried any of his products πŸ€”

Applicator
The applicator is a standard doe foot applicator. Occasionally I'll have to wipe off some excess product but it's nothing to complain about. It's just the right size-- not too small that it takes forever to paint one layer of lipstick but also not too big that it leaves the corners of my lips messy. I also like the length of the wand. Sometimes when the wands are longer it can be a bit harder to precisely use them.

Wear Time
These are some hella long-lasting lipsticks. I've easily worn them throughout the whole day (8+ hours), including meals! For instance the other week I wore 'Berry Recognize' for about 5 hours and then went to eat all you can sushi-- and didn't touch it up after! Besides for some feathering away at the center, the lipstick was completely in place. I could easily have worn the lipstick for longer but I wanted to go to sleep. (I took some photos for a wear test but can't seem to find them. If I do uncover them I'll update the post!)

Smell
Finally a matte liquid lipstick that doesn't smell like canned frosting on crack!! Hallelujah!

If I really go and stick my nose all up in there (which I did for this review), I can smell a faint chemically scent but it's not noticeable when I apply them.

Results
Honestly Wet N' Wild hit it out of the park with these lipsticks. They're so comfortable to wear that I forget I'm wearing them after a while! Unlike other drugstore liquid lipsticks *cough* Nyx *cough* these completely dry down with no tackiness in sight. Of course because they are a matte finish they are a bit drying but not to the point where my lips are peeling within an hour.

Like I said up above, these last a hella long time. I went to eat all you can eat sushi one night and this lipstick survived multiple rolls of sushi, seaweed salad, miso soup, and tempura. There was minimal fading in the center of my lips but it wasn't noticeable unless you were looking for it. Also now I'm making myself hungry by typing all that out... my point is, this lipstick lasts!

Pigmentation wise it's also a knockout. All the swatches below-- arm and lip are done with one dip. The darkest shade, video vixen, could probably do with another layer but it's still one of the best vampy matte liquid lipsticks I've tried. I bought one of the darker KVD ELLs last year and ended up returning it because it looked patchy... even after 3 layers! Another pro of this lipstick is that it's easy to layer and touch up. You don't have to start over from scratch if you want to dab a little extra on because it doesn't get cakey.

When I swatched them on my arm it was a bit of a hassle to remove them, but on the lips they come off easily with a cleansing oil or balm. If you stick to traditional makeup removers, micellar waters, or wipes you will have difficulty removing these because they're stubborn af.

Swatches
As you can see, my swatches look pretty different from my photos up above of the lipsticks in the tubes. The swatches are way more color accurate πŸ‘  In certain lighting 'Video Vixen' can look very brown in the tube but whenever I apply it, it reads as a dark purple-- like in both my swatches below.

Ingredients
Isononyl Isononanoate, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Polyethylene, Ozokerite, Microcrystalline Wax/Cire microcristalline, Paraffin, Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Glycol Montanate, Isodecyl Neopentanoate, Synthetic Wax, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, BHT, MAY CONTAIN: Titanium Dioxide/CI 77891, Iron Oxides/CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, Red 7 Lake/CI 15850, Red 40 Lake/CI 16035, Yellow 5/CI 19140, Blue 1 Lake/CI 42090

Packaging
The packaging is pretty no frills, but then again not many lip liners are frilly, especially drugstore ones. It's got black packaging plus a cap color coordinated to the color of the liner.

I love that this is a twisty lip pencil instead of a wooden lip liner. Ain't nobody got time for pencil sharpeners.

Wear Time
Because they're creamy, they don't have the longest wear time. Usually I go about 2-ish hours before reapplying-- mostly because they don't stand up well to drinking or eating. And I'm always drinking or eating.

Results
I think these Wet N' Wild lip liners may be rivaling my Jordana ones for the coveted position of "favorite lip liner formula ever." They're pigmented, soft, and comfortable to wear. Although they don't smudge, they aren't the longest lasting formula. I know that's a con for some people but personally I don't mind.

I've found that when it comes to lip liners (and also lipstick) there's usually a trade-off between comfort and wear time. I'd rather have a comfortable formula that lasts 2-3 hours over one that tugs across my lips and emphasizes all its texture yet lasts 5-6 hours. As I'm always eating and drinking, the longest I've gone without retouching these is about 3 hours.

Like Wet N' Wild promised, there's absolutely no tugging or dragging when I apply these. Just seamless, creamy softness. They're also really pigmented! One layer and I'm good to go. I've been wearing them by themselves but they also layer really nicely over a lip balm-- I've been using Drunk Elephant's Lippie lately.

Bottom Line
I would hands down recommend both the lip liners and liquid lipsticks! Both are so comfortable to wear and apply. Both last reasonable amounts of time (more so the liquid lipsticks than the lip liners, but that's to be expected.) Best of all both are ridiculously affordable! At the moment the lip liners are on sale at Walgreens so you can get 2 for $5 or 1 for $2.79! I'm tempted myself to pick up 'Red the Scene' and 'Never Petal Down'...

Have you tried either of these new 2017 releases from Wet N' Wild yet? What are your thoughts on them? Alternatively if you haven't, have I convinced you that you need to? 😜
