Oh Hi, Ohii Beauty: Reviewing Urban Outfitter's New In-House Beauty Line

The title of this post pretty much gives it away, it's a first impression/ review of Urban Outfitter's new ohii beauty line! They do have a few other in-house beauty brands like Gourmand and Adorn, but this is the first line solely focusing on makeup and skincare.

I was sent most of the products in today's post before they launched, as PR samples from Urban Outfitters. So I've had time to play with them. They also had a pop-up last weekend in the city which I stopped by, I ended up purchasing the magic hair wand while I was there. The line officially went line last Monday and you can now find them on the Urban Outfitters site and in stores.

The entire line is cruelty-free and everything I'm reviewing in this post besides for the eyeshadow palette is vegan. And everything but the magic hair wand and the eyeshadow palette are made in the USA.

ohii Lip Jelly in Rose

$8.00 for 0.33 oz
Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Tridecyl Trimellitate, Phytosteryl/Isostearyl/Cetyl/Stearyl/Behenyl Dimer Dilinoleate, Synthetic Wax, Mica, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Diisostearyl Malate, Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Silica, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Flavor (Aroma), Propylene Carbonate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Wax, Phenoxyethanol, Tribehenin, Citronellol, Geraniol, Sodium Saccharin, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sorbitan Isostearate, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Red 7 (CI 15850), Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1

Gotta start of the post on a positive note cause this is my favorite product from the collection!

The packaging is cute and compact. It comes in a squeezy tube with a slanted plastic applicator.

It has a beautiful, light rose scent. It's super moisturizing and keeps my lips hydrated for a few hours, even if I'm constantly sipping water. It's not sticky or tacky. Honestly, it's become my go to lip balm ever since I do it. It even wears nicely over lipstick!

Pricewise it's also in that sweet spot. It's a lil' bit more expensive that plain chapstick but at under $10, still more affordable than "prestige" lip balms. I can confidently say it's something I will repurchase! I tried the other two scents at the pop-up but I think rose is the best of the bunch.

ohii Gummy Gloss in Rose Quartz

$16.00 for 0.27 oz
Ingredients: Polybutene, Hydrogenated Poly (C6-14 Olefin), Mineral Oil/Huile Minerale/Paraffinum Liquidum, Hydrogenated Polydecene, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, BIS-Diglyceryl Polyacyladipate-2, Glyceryl Behenate/Eicosadioate, Mica (CI 77019), Ethylene/Propylene/Styrene Copolymer, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Carbonate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Silica, Butylene/Ethylene/Styrene Copolymer, Ethyl Vanillin, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Stevia Rebaudiana Extract

Glitter and I have a tumultuous relationship. In eyeshadow, I love it. In face products, I'm iffy about it. In lip products, I'll tolerate it... to a degree.

This lip gloss is on the verge of being frosty, and that's one 90s trend I'm not looking to bring back. If it weren't for the intense glitz and glam, I would be a fan of this lip gloss. It isn't overly sticky and it gives a nice shine without being too tacky. It doesn't bleed out of my lipline either. The packaging is cute and compact and easy to pop into my purse. Unfortunately, the glitter is a deal breaker for me.

I will say, it's not as glittery on the lips as it is in the tube. But still, to glittery for my tastes.

ohii Glass Powder

$18.00 for 0.35 oz
Ingredients: Talc, Nylon-12, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Diphenyl Dimethicone/ Vinyl Diphenyl Dimethicone/Silsesquioxane Cross Polymer, Magnesium Stearate, Dimethicone, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Ethylhexylglycerin, Caprylyl Glycol, Iron Oxides (CI 77491), Iron Oxides (CI 77492), Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Coco Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Mica (CI 77019), Iron Oxides (CI 77499), Methicone

I'm not a big powder person but because we've had way too many days with 90%+ humidity over the past month, I've gotten a lot of wear out of this powder.

At first I was afraid it would create a white cast on my skin. The first time I tried it out on my hand. I *packed* it on and my hand looked ghostly. But when I apply it like I normally would a powder, there are no issues. That said, if you have dark/ deep skin I think this could potentially give you a white cast, depending on how much powder you use.

It does a pretty good job at mattifying my skin without drying it out! It's more mattifying than my HG Charlotte Tilbury powder, but still not too mattifying for my skin in the summer. It also softly blurs pores which is always a plus. If you have uber oily skin and look for a matte finish, I'm not sure if this will do enough for you because it's not a heavy setting powder. But if you have any skin type and like a more natural/ satin finish, this is a solid option.

My favorite part about this powder is the compact. It's super sturdy and clicks shut, so I don't have to worry about it shattering when I pop it into my purse. It has a mirror so you can see what you're applying and comes with a thin lil' sponge. Despite the fact that the sponge looks and feels very flimsy and cheap, it actually works really well! It doesn't pick up a lot of product so it's good for lightly applying the powder.

ohii Wake Up Pen in Peach

$18.00 for 0.14 oz
Ingredients: Water/Eau/Aqua, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Phenyl Trimethicone, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, PEG-9 Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone, Diethylhexyl Carbonate, Mica (CI 77019), Dimethicone, Pentylene Glycol, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Phenoxyethanol, Magnesium Sulfate, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Sorbitan Sesquioleate, Vinyl Dimethicone/Methicone Silsesquioxane Crosspolymer, Stearoyl Inulin, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Trimethylsiloxysilicate, Disodium EDTA, Silica

I'll just come out and say it: I don't really understand the point of this product.

I'm all about that no makeup makeup life... but this is a little bit too no makeupy even for me! It's a lightweight lotion with a peachy tint to it. Once you blend it out, it disappears into nothingness. I've tried wearing it under my eyes but it doesn't look like I've applied anything. I even tried it on my mom who is much fairer than me (think MAC NC20- NC25), and it didn't show up on her either! It has a ton of rave reviews on the site so it must work for someone. Personally, I think a lightweight hydrating eye cream could deliver similar, if not better results.

ohii Pure Stick Deodorant in Fresh Rose

$12.00 for 3.25 oz
Ingredients: Water/Eau/Aqua, Propanediol, Sodium Stearate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Fragrance (Parfum), Ethylhexylglycerin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Charcoal Powder, Citronellol, Geraniol

Just a refresher for people like me who constantly confuse anti-persperant and deodorant. Anti-persperant helps prevent sweat. And deodorant helps prevent/mask stink. There are some products that are both and others that are just one. This one is only a deodorant so it's supposed to help with the stink.

Sadly, it just didn't deliver for me. The stick itself has a beautiful powdery rose scent, but after wearing it for a few hours in the summer-- my pits stink of B.O. Slightly TMI but sometimes the truth needs to be said.

On the plus side, it goes on invisible and doesn't leave any pasty residue behind like some other deodorants. The packaging is nice, and comes with a screw-up top (much preferable over push up deos.) My only complaint is that the cap is not very spacious, so I always have to screw the deodorant all the way down before screwing the cap back on.

Because it isn't effective throughout the day, I instead use it after showering in the evning. For that short time frame, it works.

ohii Magic Hair Wand

$12.00 for 0.17 oz
Ingredients: Water/Eau/Aqua, Alcohol Denat., Glycerin, Triethanolamine, Panthenol, Propylene Glycol, Phenoxyethanol, Carbomer, VP/VA Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin

This was the one product from the line I bought myself. So far-- no regrets!!

My baby hairs go crazy in the summer. And anytime there's a hint of humidity. Basically, they're bonkers year round. A lot of times I'll straighten them to help keep them from sticking out but sometimes if the weather is humid enough, they'll become crazy again.

I've tried hairspray, gel, and eyebrow products even to keep them in place. Some of them have worked but they always leave me with an unpleasant greasiness or crunchy feeling. Then along came this hair wand.

It does a good job of keeping my baby hairs down WITHOUT leaving any reside on my hair. It's not something that will last all night and day, but I do get a solid 5 or 6 hours out of it. And it's easy to reapply. I imagine when it's winter and not as humid, it will last even longer.

ohii Magic Hour Shadow Palette

$24.00 for 10 shades, 0.37 oz each
Ingredients depending on the shade-- for all the deets check the product page

This palette features 10 beautiful shimmery shades. It's not something I would have bought for myself... but now that I have it, I've worn it nonstop! The shades are pigmented, easy to blend, and last well throughout the day when worn over an eyeshadow primer. Even the lighter shades work for my skintone without looking ashy.

They're not all fully opaque but they can be built up. Personally, I like wearing one shade quickly blended out (fingers or brush both work) on my upper lid and another shade smudged on my lower lashline. Because they're shimmery and some shades have a shift, it makes it look like I put in way more effort than I actually did! Which is basically the goal of my entire aesthetic.

Packaging wise it's cute. It doesn't come with a mirror, which I don't mind at that price point. It also doesn't come with a crappy useless brush that so many brands seem to deem necessary even though it is a truth universally acknowledged that they all suck! My one pet peeve with the packaging is that it's matte paper which means it's difficult to keep clean. If it had a glossy/ laminated finish I could keep it clean with a washcloth. But because it's paper I'm wary of getting it wet, lest the paper start peeling. So while I think the matte paper look is pretty, it's not very practical cause it's very susceptible to dirty fingerprints that are difficult to clean. All that said, the paper packaging isn't a dealbreaker for me and I will probably end up buying their magic hour palette too because I like the formula and love the colors! And honestly, it's hard to beat that price for the quality and color selection.

That's a wrap folks! Overall my favorite products are definitely the Magic Hair Wand and the Rose Lip Jelly. The eyeshadow palette is also a beauty and I think I'm going to be picking up the treasure palette at some point because it has the prettiest yellow and pink shades.
