How I Wash My Hair With $100 Bills | Blogmas Day 4

Since I can be a tad overdramatic at times, I went on a roller coaster of emotions when I first received this Kérastase Voxbox. At first I was ecstatic to unbox these Kérastase products. Since I've never tried anything of theirs before, like a good little millennial I did a quick google search to find out more about the brand. Then came the horror. $63 for a hair mask I could buy at Target?! Say it ain't so 😱

And finally was the smugness. Sure they were pricey but I got to try these pricey products for free!

Like most people, I love free stuff. Especially free beauty stuff. So thank you, Influenster! (BTW if you haven't heard of influenster before go to their website! It's free to sign up for + you don't need to be a blogger + you get free shit to test out in exchange for writing an honest review. And they don't penalize you for negative reviews because I've written more negative ones than positive ones so ya know they really appreciate the honest feedback.)

Back to the topic on hand, Influenster sent over two products. The Kérastase Bain Satin 1 and the Kérastaste Nutritive Masquintense Fine. Now the question is-- are they worth the splurgey price tag?

Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 2 Shampoo
Price: $41.00 for 8.5 fl. oz (price on Kérastase site); Available via Amazon, Kerastase, Look Fantastic, Birchbox

Ingredients (CosDNA breakdown here): Aqua/Water/Eau (Water), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Chloride, Dimethicone, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Cyclodextrin, Glycerin, PPG 5 Ceteth 20, Sodium Benzoate, Sodium Methylparaben, Cocamide MIPA, Isostearyl Neopentanoate, Salicylic Acid, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Carbomer, Ethylparaben, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Linalool, Limonene, Glyceryl Linoleate, Glyceryl Oleate, Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius) Glucosides, Butylphenyl Methlyproprional, Methylcocoate, Sodium Cocoate, Glyceryl Linoleate, Sodium Hydroxide, Citric Acid, Parfum (Fragrance)

Claims: According to the Kérastase website, this shampoo gently cleans your hair while leaving your hair soft, smooth, and manageable. The claim to fame ingredients include glucose, protein, and lipids which "blend internally" to replenish dry hair. Not gonna lie, the whole key technology section reads like a bunch of marketing hooey.

Scent: The best way I could describe the scent is expensive. It literally just smells like expensive perfume. I feel like I'm washing my hair with hundred dollar bills when I'm using this shampoo.

Texture: Texture wise it's similar to every other shampoo I've ever tried.

Results: Considering this shampoo has SLS, I was surprised to find that it didn't dry out my hair! It lathered really nicely and did a good job at washing my hair. It got rid of my product build up without turning my hair into straw. I wouldn't say the shampoo "nourished" my hair as it wasn't particularly soft after I used it. Overall I would say it's an average shampoo for me. In a blind test if you told me this was a shampoo you bought at the drugstore for less than $10, I would believe you.

Because of the exorbitant price range, I expected the shampoo to have a more elegant ingredient list. There's nothing that's alarming to me on the list, but also nothing that makes me think "wow, what a well formulated shampoo!"

Kérastase Nutritive Masquintense With Irisome
Price: $68.00 for 6.8 oz (price on Kérastase site); Available via AmazonKerastase, Target, Look Fantastic

Ingredients: Aqua/Water/Eau (Water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Glycerin, Amodimethicone, Cetyl Esters, Isopropyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Hydroxypropyltrimonium Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Trideceth 6, Glyceryl Linoleate, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) (Sunflower Seed Oil), Glyceryl Oleate, Chlorhexidine Dihydrochloride, Alpha Isomethyl Ionone, Coumarin, Geraniol, Safflower (Carthamus Tinctorius) Glucosides, Glyceryl Linoleate, Parfum (Fragrance)

Claims: The claims for this mask are pretty similar to the shampoo. Provide nourishment for dry hair in order to leave it nice and shiny. And said shininess is supposed to be long-lasting. Like the shampoo, there's also a lot of what I considering marketing hooey in the key technology section.

Scent: Same as the shampoo, this smells like expensive perfume. Excuse me while I go bathe myself in hundred dollar bills, okay?

Texture: The best way I can describe the texture of this mask is that it's like a white jelly. It's soft to the touch and easy to work into the hair. A little of this definitely goes a long way. I use about a quarter sized amount for my entire hair.

Results: Thanks to the absurd price tag, I was already sort of biased against this mask. But I was totally wrong cause the mask actually works! After rinsing this out, my hair feels so soft to the touch.

For instance when I wash my hair with Neutrogena's T-gel, my hair pretty much feels like straw. I'll usually either condition twice or mix in some oil with my conditioner. But this mask is so potent that it turns my hair from straw to pillowy soft in one wash!

Another plus of this mask is that it detangles my hair. While I try to brush my hair before I wash my it, that only happens about 50% of the time. The other half of the time I'm too rushed or too lazy to and eventually struggle to get out the knots while it's drying. But when I use this mask my hair seems to detangle itself. I don't know how it happens but it's a fucking miracle that I'm thankful for.

So here's the bottom line. Are they worth it or not? Kérastase's Bain Satin 2 Shampoo? Not for me. Kérastase's Nutritive Masquintense Mask? HELL YES 🙌

Unrelated note, who else is super excited for the Westworld season finale?!
