faking an effort

Last week was kind of crazy school-wise. And on those days I don't want to spend any time fussing over what to wear, I immediately reach for the comfiest pieces possible. In this case that included worn in booties, destroyed beyond belief boyfriend jeans, and an oversized turtleneck sweater. To make it look like I put in some effort, I decided to apply some lipstick. To me, there's just something about wearing lipstick that says "I tried today"...even if I really didn't.

turtleneck sweater: h&m, jeans: urban outfitters (similar), boots: arturo chiang, bag: urban outfitters (on sale), lipstick: Audrey by nars

  1. After two degrees and almost eight years in college, I have accumulated way more knowledge than I actually need about how to look put together when you're actually a lazy slob. :) Good choice on the lipstick tip! You're totally right. There's something about a colored lip that says "hey I tried" when really you woke up 20 minutes before you had to be somewhere.

  3. I think you're right about wearing lipstick. boyfriend jeans and bold lips make a great combo with great attitude. but why is it so hard to actually use those lipsticks with every outfit? would be a nice way to spice up some very casual ensembles. I guess I'm (unfortunately) too lazy for that :P

  4. That knit looks so cosy! :)

I love your boots and your cute beaded clutch too! I think the accessories are just as much what makes a look as much as the lipstick :)

  6. You know what, I've had a lot of those days lately and I reach for some black jeans and something white and loose for the top. I might just add some lipstick next time because yeah, it makes me look like I made an effort even though I want to curl on the couch and sleep.

  8. Welp, you still look amazing even while you're not trying. I just love the pieces you own in your closet- each one always looks so deliberate and well made. You always look so crazy on-point. And those jeans! Get in my liiiiife! I love those intense tears.

Also, I'm right there with you with the lipstick. It always makes me feel like I went from "sloppy" to "fashionably sloppy", haha ;)

  19. Hehe, no kidding. If everything else is the epitome of lazy, I've decided that swiping on red lipstick instantly makes everything chic. Oh, lazy? No, it's lazy-CHIC!

    Easy fix ;)

And personally, I love the look of casual pieces, especially when paired with a pretty lipstick and statement clutch. Seriously, that bedazzled clutch is AMAZING *_*

  24. Clearly you pulled cute pieces. Comfy clothing can still have character.... that doesn't convey I'm a sloppy mesh or I really didn't try. Nothing wrong with a boxy chunky knit. That's part of what makes it cozy. Those jeans, I love a distressed boyfriend jean. Then you grabbed an embellished clutch? This is effortless casual attire, in my opinion.

  29. For not making much of an effort, you still look amazing. You pull of "rushing to class, so I just pulled this on" perfectly and actually look great. I couldn't agree with you more about the lipstick, I always feel more put together when I have lipstick on and that clutch is amazing. I don't know why I wasn't following you on bloglovin before because I love your blog and your writing is always a great read for me!

  30. Mili you are so right! Most outfits don't look complete without some sort of lipstick or lip color ! It really does show that you tried! And if this is you faking effort...damn girl! Loving the look! Great choice with the Urban Outfitters bag too! :) Rita @ www.CoastWithMe.com

  31. I'm really jealous that you can wear this to work! Because I love distressed denim + booties - so I would wear it all the time if I could. I'm a little behind on the lipstick movement but I'm jumping on board. Not 100% comfortable/committed but it's fun :)
