minor details

Like many people, I'm all "don't put me in a box," and "b*tch, you don't know me" when it comes to my personal style. But in reality, if I had to boil it down to one word, I would say it's simple. I can appreciate pattern mixing and heavy jewelry and all that jazz on others, but when it comes to dressing myself in such a way I just feel awkward, clumsy, and tacky. If I'm ever unsure of what to wear, an all black outfit is the perfect go to.

That being said, that doesn't mean I can't spice things up in my own way.

Minor details can make an outfit less boring in my eyes. Replacing a crew neck tee with a mock neck top, adding an embellished clutch, and wearing white sneakers for a contrast are all small things, but I like to think they make a bigger impact. Last but not least, my maxi cardigan. I dedicated an entire post to all things of longer lengths a few months ago, and I'm still not over my infatuation with the trend. A maxi cardigan is one of those things that can take any boring old outfit and instantly make it 10x cooler.

  9. I hear you girl- sometimes I'll pile on a ton of accessories, prints, etc., and it just doesn't feel like me. I'd rather go a little simpler and add one really spunky, kinda-weird thing for interest. :)

    Looooove the all-black here!

  10. First of all, I love tour voice in this post…you made me smile with that opening line, and the end one! I agree that small teaks to a look can really make it different and more YOU, you look awesome in this. Love the sneakers and the bedazzled purse with that all black look;)

  12. Haha, the "bitch, you don't know me" had me laughing. So true xD
At the core, I think we all can narrow down our style with some thought. But it's always fun to spice things up ;)
I really want to add a maxi cardigan to my wardrobe! I think it would add a nice, dramatic touch to a simple outfit!

  13. although i wouldn't really call my style simple, i do love those kinds of looks for other people, and sparkly/eye-catching accessories like that bag of yours always do the trick when you're wearing something simple, no matter what style it is.

  14. If I'm going to go for the statement pieces, I learn that everything else I'm wearing has to be very simple. I still go for the simple looks most of the time, and that is my go to fashion. Nice post.

  18. that beaded clutch is awesome! :)

I think the maxi cardi is great on you too! I love that style but I think I'm much too short for it, haha! It would trail on the ground for me I think! Would be a new one for my tailor though - hemming a cardigan instead of the usual pants and skirts I bring her, ha!

  19. I'm actually only 5' 1" and most of the maxi cardigans that I've tried aren't too long-- so if you're around my height, hopefully you can find one you can work with :)

  20. I can have that clutch all my life and never get bored..It looks beautiful.
